National Public Works Week
The week of May 16, 2010 is National Public Works Week (NPWW). NPWW is a celebration of the tens of thousands of men and women in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works.
Instituted as a public education campaign by the American Public Works Association in 1960, NPWW calls attention to the importance of public works in community life. The week seeks to enhance the prestige of the professionals who serve the public good every day with quiet dedication.
As part of NPWW, the Department of Public Works will be hosting tours of the Wastewater Treatment Plant located off Hockunum Road (Northampton) and the new Water Treatment Plant located off Haydenville Road (Williamsburg) on May 18 and May 20 at 1:00 p.m. Sign up in advance is required and will be limited to the first thirty (30) citizens who call. Call 587-1090 for the Wastewater Treatment Plant tour and 587-1097 for the Water Treatment Plant tour.
