Construction Update - Week of May 2nd

For the week of May 2nd, weather permitting, the following work is scheduled:

Conz and Pleasant Streets - Roundabout Pre-Construction Begins
  • Gomes Construction of Ludlow is the general contractor for the roundabout construction under a contract with MassDOT.
  • Columbia Gas will be relocating the gas line along Conz Street to the bowling alley during the next several weeks.
  • Once the gas relocation is complete, Gomes will begin replacing the water line from Wright Avenue to just beyond the levee. This work should take about 1 month.
  • Through traffic will be maintained at all times. Lane closures for one-way traffic are restricted to between 9 am and 3 pm. No detours are anticipated.
  •  If possible, motorists should seek alternate routes or EXPECT DELAYS. Please obey directions from police officers and be considerate of the work area and other motorists.
 Warner Street Sewer Project - Federal Street to Maplewood Terrace
  • Ludlow construction will be on site to repair driveway aprons and do final cleanup. Loam and seed areas will be monitored until vegetation is established.
Pulaski Park
  • Mountain View Landscapes & Lawncare, Inc. continues with the renovation of Pulaski Park.
  • The park will be closed to the public for the duration of the project which is scheduled to be completed in June. The stairway from the Roundhouse parking lot to South Street at the back of the Academy of Music will remain open.
Pulaski Park Underground Utilities
  • Comcast will complete final cut overs to new underground wiring and begin removing overhead wires. Verizon is scheduled to follow with their wiring and the removal of affected utility poles once their services have been transferred to the underground lines and overhead wires have been removed.

Street Sweeping Operations 2016

The Dept. of Public Works has starting their annual street sweeping. We will be sweeping the Wards in the following order: 2, 1, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3.  We expect that we will start in the last week of April.

We will also be sweeping the Downtown Business District every other week during the sweeping season from 11pm to 7am. The dates will vary and be dependent on the weather.

The D.P.W. has already completed sweeping the City school parking lots, as well as the streets that will be crack sealed during this construction season.

Water and Sewer Rates for Fiscal Year 2017

The Northampton City Council has approved the water and sewer rates for FY2017 as follows:


WATER RATE

Customer with 1" water meter or smaller
Tier 1 consumption: 0 - 16 CCF $4.36 per CCF
Tier 2 consumption: >16 CCF $5.82 per CCF

Customers with water meter larger than 1"
All consumption $5.72 per CCF

(CCF = 100 cubic feet = 748 gallons)

SEWER RATE

Non-metered $7.52 per CCF based on 80% of metered water consumption
Metered $7.52 per CCF

In addition to the new tiered volumetric rates, the DPW will implement the following fees:

QUARTERLY FIXED CHARGE

5/8" meter = $12.64
3/4" meter = $18.96
1" meter = $31.59
1.5" meter = $63.17
2" meter = $101.07
3" meter = $189.51
4" meter = $315.85
6" meter = $631.69
8" meter = $1,010.69

NOTE: Customers who currently qualify for a low-income exemption on Real Estate or the Community Preservation Act (CPA) will receive an exemption on their water and sewer bill equivalent to the fixed charge.

Construction Update - Week of April 25th

For the week of April 25th, weather permitting, the following work is scheduled:

Various Streets Repaved in 2015 -
Warner Bros will be completing the following miscellaneous work:
  • Monday-Friday: Chesterfield and Reservoir Roads, gravel shoulders
  • Tuesday: Hydroseeding, various streets
 Warner Street Sewer Project - Federal Street to Maplewood Terrace
  • Ludlow construction will continue restoration of disturbed areas and punch list items remaining from the sewer construction work. Paving is scheduled for Thursday.
Florence Rd/Rte 66, Jackson St/Bridge Rd & South St/Munroe St
  • Monday-Tuesday: Central Mass Signal will be installing audible pedestrian buttons at these intersections. 
Pulaski Park
  • Mountain View Landscapes & Lawncare, Inc. continues with the renovation of Pulaski Park.
  • The park will be closed to the public for the duration of the project which is scheduled to be completed in June. The stairway from the Roundhouse parking lot to South Street at the back of the Academy of Music will remain open.

  • Comcast is in the process of installing wire and transferring from overhead utilities to underground. Verizon is scheduled to follow with their wiring and the removal of affected utility poles once Comcast and Verizon services have been transferred to the underground lines and overhead wires have been removed.

Construction Update - Week of April 18th

For the week of April 18th, weather permitting, the following work is scheduled:

Various Streets Repaved in 2015 -
Warner Bros will be completing the following miscellaneous work:
  • Monday-Wednesday:  Driveway aprons on Prospect Street
  • Thursday: Chesterfield Road gravel shoulders
  • Friday: Reservoir Road gravel shoulders
 Warner Street Sewer Project - Federal Street to Maplewood Terrace
  • Ludlow construction will be on site starting Monday or Tuesday to complete restoration and punch list items remaining from the sewer construction work. Milling and paving of the roadway is tentatively scheduled for the week of April 25th.
 Pleasant Street/Route 5 at the Levee near I-91
  • AJ Virgilio Construction is scheduled to do night work on the flood control stop log structures and do a trial wall deployment on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 pm until 5 am. One way traffic will be maintained, but motorists should expect delays.

Construction Update - Week of April 11th

For the week of April 11th, weather permitting, the following work is scheduled:

Various Streets Repaved in 2015 -
Warner Bros will be completing the following miscellaneous work:
  • Monday-Tuesday:  Handicap ramps on Milton Street.
  • Wednesday:  No work.
  • Thursday: Handicap ramp at Florence and Ryan Road intersection
  • Friday: Driveway transitions on Prospect Street 
 Warner Street Sewer Project - Federal Street to Maplewood Terrace
  • Ludlow construction will be on site in the next week or two to address punch list items remaining from the sewer construction work. Milling and paving of the roadway is tentatively scheduled for the week of April 25th.
