Temporary Lane Closure on Elm Street

Elm Street between West Street and Bedford Terrace will have the Westbound lane temporarily closed to thru traffic on Wednesday August 30th, 2017.

The temporary lane closure on Elm Street will be from 7:30am until 3:00pm to complete emergency repairs to a sanitary sewer service.

The lane will reopen open after the work is complete, and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes if possible.

Motorists are advised to approach this work zone with caution, and be prepared for traffic delays, police details will be present.

Construction Update for the week of August 28th

Construction Update - Week of August 28st


Hinckley Street
  • Ludlow Construction will continue installing new drainage between Warner Street and Winslow Ave.
  • The intersection of Warner Street will be closed for approximately two days during normal working hours (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM) for the first part of the week, and Hinckley Street will be limited to local traffic only.  Access for local residents will be maintained.  Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
  • The work on this road includes the replacement of water, sewer and drainage utilities, a new drainage outfall off Riverside Drive, new sidewalk, roadway reclamation and repaving, and a raised crosswalk across Nonotuck Street.    
Pleasant and Holyoke Streets
  • Geoge Cairns and Sons Construction will be installing sheet piling behind the former Northampton Lumber site in preparation for installation of a large drainage culvert.
  • The work consists of realigning a section of drainage culvert behind the former Northampton Lumber site and across Holyoke Street in order to accommodate the redevelopment of the site.
Pleasant and Williams Streets and Hockanum Road Gas Work
  • Columbia Gas is replacing gas main and services along these routes. Work will continue through the summer. 
Day Avenue Ave/North Maple/North Farms
  • Caracas Construction will continue with the installation of the new water main in North Farms Road this week. One-lane traffic will be maintained, but motorists should expect delays or seek alternate routes, if possible.  Access for local residents will be maintained.  Temporary road closures may be required.
  • No work is expected on Day Avenue this week. The road will be open for use. Once work is complete on North Maple Street and North Farms Road, Caracas will return to Day Avenue to complete road work at that location.  
Audubon Road
  • No work is expected on Audubon Road this week. Borges Construction is waiting for the new culvert to be fabricated. Delivery and installation of the new culvert is anticipated to begin shortly after Labor Day.
  • The work on this road includes replacing water and drain lines and a box culvert followed by reclaiming and repaving of the roadway from the center of Leeds to near house #200.

Construction Update - Week of August 21st


Hinckley Street
  • Ludlow Construction will continue installing new drainage pipe from riverside Drive towards Warner Street. Due to the narrowness of the roadway, detours around the block where construction is occurring will be required. Access for local residents will be maintained.
  • The work on this road includes the replacement of water, sewer and drainage utilities, a new drainage outfall off Riverside Drive, new sidewalk, roadway reclamation and repaving, and a raised crosswalk across Nonotuck Street.   
Ryan Road
  • Palmer Paving is scheduled to install signage and do line painting this week. 
Pleasant Street Improvements Project
  • JBL Construction will be substantially completing the project this week. Pavement markings are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, and motorists should expect delays or seek alternate routes, if possible.
  • Construction on Pleasant Street includes roadway, bicycle and pedestrian improvements from Hampton Avenue to Hockanum Road.
 Various Streets
  • Sealcoating, Inc. began crack sealing on various City streets the week of August 4, 2017. The work is currently anticipated to take about three weeks.
Pleasant and Williams Streets and Hockanum Road Gas Work
  • Columbia Gas is replacing gas main and services along these routes. Work will continue through the summer. 
Day Avenue Ave/North Maple/North Farms

Once in North Farms Road, one-lane traffic will be maintained, but motorists should expect delays or seek alternate routes, if possible. Access for local residents will be maintained.
  • No work is expected on Day Avenue this week. The road will be open for use. Once work is complete on North Maple Street and North Farms Road, Caracas will return to Day Avenue to complete road work at that location.

Bancroft Road between Round Hill Road and Crescent Street will be temporarily closed to thru traffic on Friday August 18th, 2017.


The temporary road closure on Bancroft Road will be from 7:30am until 3:00pm to complete an emergency tree removal.


The road will reopen open after the work is complete, and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes if possible. Local residents will have access to their driveways.


Motorists are advised to approach this work zone with caution, and be prepared for traffic delays.

Temporary Closure of Northampton Bikeway

Wednesday, August 16th, 2017 the Dept. of Public Works will be working on the King St. Brook and the sedimentation basin located at the end of the Northampton Bikeway by Stoddard and State Streets at the rear of Stop and Shop.

Bikeway users should take notice that the Bikeway will be closed to all bike and pedestrian traffic between Adare Place and Stoddard Street during the day of construction between the hours of 7:00 am to 3:30pm. The Bikeway will be open at all other times.

Pedestrians and bicyclists will be required to detour around the construction using Adare Place, Prospect Street and Stoddard Street.

Please be advised that there will be heavy equipment traveling up and down the Bikeway at the closure location. For their own safety, all users of the Bikeway will be turned back at the closure locations, and police details will be present.

Construction Update - Week of August 14th

For the week of August 14, 2017, weather permitting, the following work is scheduled:


Ryan Road and Park Hill Road
  • Palmer Paving will be installing curbing and paving on Ryan Road.  Microsurfacing will be applied on Park Hill Road  (between 395 Park Hill road and Park Hill Road South) and Ryan Road (between Florence Road and Brookside Circle) on Wednesday and Thursday.  Please seek alternative routes or EXPECT DELAYS at these locations.   For those residents who MUST travel on Ryan Road, accommodations will be made by the contractor to ensure that you have timely access.  Please follow signs, cones and directions.
Pleasant Street Improvements Project
  • JBL construction will be doing some loam, mulch and signs; finishing up cement near Florida Street; and finishing brick work.  They will also be doing some cleaning up.
  • Construction on Pleasant Street includes roadway, bicycle and pedestrian improvements from Hampton Avenue to Hockanum Road.
 Various Streets

Traffic on Bridge road will be maintained, but motorists should expect delays. Traffic on North Maple Street in the vicinity of Bridge Road may be re-routed at intervals, as required by construction. Access for local residents will be maintained. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes, if possible.
  • No work is expected on Day Avenue this week. The road will be open for use. Once work is complete on North Maple Street and North Farms Road, Caracas will return to Day Avenue to complete road work at that location.

  • Columbia Gas is expected to install new gas main in the vicinity of the culvert on Audubon Road.  The road may be closed to through traffic during the day for construction.  Local access for residents is expected to be maintained.  The road will be reopened at night for all vehicles.
  • The work on this road includes replacing water and drain lines and a box culvert followed by reclaiming and repaving of the roadway from the center of Leeds to near house #200.
Hinckley Street
  • Ludlow Construction Company will be starting work on the Hinckley Street Reconstruction project Monday, August 14, 2017.  The work this week will include a test pit in Riverside Drive and beginning construction of the Drainage System from Riverside Drive to Warner Street. 

    Traffic on Riverside Drive will be maintained, but motorists should expect delays.  Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes and expect delays, particularly on Hinckley Street between Riversiade Drive and Warner Street.

  • Palmer Paving will be constructing handicap access ramps and crack sealing sections of Ryan Road between Florence Road and Burts Pit Road in preparation for micro-surfacing from Florence Road to Brookside Circle the following week.
Pleasant Street Improvements Project
  • JBL construction will be installing sections of sidewalk and brick edging.
  • Construction on Pleasant Street includes roadway, bicycle and pedestrian improvements from Hampton Avenue to Hockanum Road.

 Various Streets
  • Sealcoating, Inc. will begin crack sealing on various City streets beginning in the downtown area next week. The work is currently anticipated to take about three weeks.
