At a semiannual inspection of the Clement Street Bridge last week, MassDOT bridge inspectors identified a critical structural deficiency. After conference with the Department of Public Works (DPW), the decision has been made to close the bridge beginning on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 7:00AM.
The DPW has been proactively planning and preparing for work on the Clement Street Bridge that would make structural repairs that address this and other structural deficiencies. In October 2016, DPW retained the services of Greenman Pedersen, Inc. (GPI) to design these repairs. Design plans were submitted to MassDOT in the early summer of 2017. MassDOT approved the plans last week. The approved design will be put out to bid in January of 2018 with work expected to begin in early spring. Anticipated project completion and bridge re-opening is summer 2018.
Pedestrian and bicyclist use of the bridge will be allowed.
