For the week of June 25, 2018 Weather Permitting

Pothole Update - To be updated Monday
  • This week the DPW crews repaired the potholes on Grove Street, Island Road, Brookside Circle, Overlook Drive, High Meadow, and Rural Lane.  They are in the process of working on potholes on Acrebrook Drive and Cross Street.  The largest potholes are being filled first to alleviate hazards to motor vehicles.  As hazards arise and are identified they will be addressed.

Hinckley Street 
  • Ludlow Construction will continue with roadway reconstruction this week on Hinckley Street.  DRIVEWAY ACCESS WILL BE LIMITED DURING WORK HOURS, plan to move your vehicle(s) out of your driveway prior to 7:00 AM. This work entails raising covers for manholes & catchbasins, excavation, soil removal, backfilling, placement and grading of gravel.  The ban on parking along Hinckley Street will continue
  • Weather permitting, Monday will include work along Riverside Drive as well as Hinckley Street.  On Wednesday and Thursday, the binder (first) course of pavement will be installed on Hinckley Street. This will be followed by work on sidewalks, curbs, and driveways in following weeks.  
  • Horizontal alignment stakes have been installed along properties at Hinckley Street. 
  • Traffic on Hinckley Street will be restricted and detours may be in place.  Public Safety officer(s) will be on duty.
  • The work of replacement of water and sewer utilities is complete.  New sidewalk, repaving, and a raised crosswalk in Nonotuck Street is upcoming this summer.
Chesterfield Road at Kennedy Road - Upper Roberts Meadow Reservoir Dam
  • SumCo Eco-Contracting, LLC has removed slightly less than one half of the dam. They have demobilized form the site until rain events mobilize some of the sediment in the impoundment downstream.
  • The project will remove the Upper Roberts Reservoir Dam to restore the Roberts Meadow Brook stream channel to its natural course. 
 Chesterfield Road
  • Palmer Paving is scheduled to mobilize for the reconstruction of lower Chesterfield Road.  They will be installing construction signs and sediment controls.
  • The project includes replacement of the water line, drainage improvements and reconstruction of the roadway.
Pleasant Street
  • Columbia Gas will be installing new gas main on Pleasant Street between Main Street and Kirkland Avenue. Motorists should EXPECT DELAYS and seek alternate routes if possible. The work is anticipated to take several months to complete.
Clement Street Bridge
  • Repair work for the Clement Street Bridge has been awarded to N.E.L. Corporation. Project submittals are currently under review. Anticipated project completion and bridge re-opening is summer 2018.
  • Pedestrian and bicyclist use of the bridge will be allowed except during active construction which is anticipated to begin in early June.

Hinckley STreet

Hinckley Street Update
  • The Northampton Police Department has posted No Parking signs for the entire length of Hinckley Street during grading and initial paving operations. Cars parked on Hinckley Street between the hours of 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM will be towed beginning Friday, June 22, 2018.  We anticipate grading and initial paving operations to last through June 29, 2018 at 4:00 PM. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.

Hinckley Street
  • Ludlow Construction will begin roadway reconstruction on Hinckley Street, starting at Riverside Drive and proceeding Northward toward Warner Street and Winslow Avenue.  This work entails excavation, drainage work, soil removal, backfilling, and placement and grading of gravel.  DRIVEWAY ACCESS WILL BE LIMITED DURING WORKING HOURS.  It is recommended that residents between Riverside Drive and Winslow Avenue move their vehicles out of their driveways prior to 7 AM.. 
  • Sherman & Frydryk, a surveying company, will be placing alignment stakes on properties along Hinckley Street. 
  • Traffic on Riverside Drive and Hinckley Street will be restricted and detours will be in place.  Public Safety Officers will be on duty. 
  • The work of replacing water and sewer utilities is complete.  Repaving, new sidewalks and a raised crosswalk on Nonotuck Street is planned for this summer.
Chesterfield Road at Kennedy Road - Upper Roberts Meadow Reservoir Dam
  • SumCo Eco-Contracting, LLC will be making the second notch in the dam to lower the water level in the impoundment and, once the water levels have stabilized, will begin removing the spillway blocks down to the level of the second notch.
  • The project will remove the Upper Roberts Reservoir Dam to restore the Roberts Meadow Brook stream channel to its natural course. 
Pleasant Street
  • Columbia Gas will be installing new gas main on Pleasant Street between Main Street and Kirkland Avenue. Motorists should EXPECT DELAYS and seek alternate routes if possible. The work is anticipated to take several months to complete.

  • Ludlow Construction will continue to install drainage infrastructure in the Outfall Area below Riverside Drive and possibly crossing Riverside Drive near Hinckley Street.  This work entails excavation, pipe and manhole installation, backfilling, and grading.
  • Traffic on Riverside Drive and Hinckley Street will be restricted and detours will be in place.  Public Safety officer(s) will be on duty.
  • The work of replacement of water and sewer utilities is complete.  New sidewalk, roadway reconstruction and repaving, and a raised crosswalk in Nonotuck Street is upcoming this summer.

  • Ludlow Construction, working with their subcontractor, H.B. Fleming of South Portland Maine, will be installing pre-cast concrete lagging panels for the Pile and Lagging retaining wall below Riverside Drive beginning Monday.  This work also entails excavation, backfilling, and grading. Ludlow Construction may also do some drainage work in the Outfall Area, below Riverside Drive, and possibly crossing Riverside Drive.
  • Traffic on Riverside Drive and Hinckley Street will be restricted and detours may be in place.  Public Safety officer(s) shall be on duty.
  • The work of replacement of water and sewer utilities is complete.  New sidewalk, roadway reconstruction and repaving, and a raised crosswalk in Nonotuck Street is planned for this summer.

  • Ludlow Construction, working with their subcontractor, H.B. Fleming of South Portland Maine, will be installing pre-cast concrete lagging panels for the Pile and Lagging retaining wall below Riverside Drive beginning Tuesday or Wednesday. This work also entails excavation, backfilling, and grading.
  • Lulow Construction will also do some remaining drainage work, including installing subdrain, between Warner Street and Maplewood Terrace; and two catch basins near the bottom of Maplewood Terrace.
  • Traffic on Riverside Drive and Hinckley Street will be restricted and detours may be in place.  Public Safety officer(s) shall be on duty.
  • The work of replacement of water and sewer utilities is complete, and the installation of drainage utility continues, but not this week.  A new drainage outfall off Riverside Drive, new sidewalk, roadway reconstruction and repaving, and a raised crosswalk across Nonotuck Street is upcoming this summer.

Day Avenue, North Maple Street & North Farms Road
  • Caracas Construction will be doing final cleanup and restoration on Day Avenue, North Maple Street and North Farms Road.

  • Ludlow Construction, through their subcontractor, H.B. Fleming, of South Portland Maine, will be continuing the installation of Sheet Piles for a Pile and Lagging retaining wall below Riverside Drive  A small crew from Ludlow construction will be assisting H.B. Fleming, and performing some stump removal and topsoil removal below the wall construction.
  • Traffic on Riverside Drive and Hinckley Street will be restricted and detours may be in place.  Public Safety officer(s) shall be on duty.
  • The work of replacement of water and sewer utilities is complete; and the installation of drainage utility continues after this week.  A new drainage outfall off Riverside Drive, new sidewalk, roadway reconstruction and repaving, and a raised crosswalk across Nonotuck Street is planned for this summer.
Pleasant and Holyoke Streets 
  • Construction on the new building at 256 Pleasant Street is underway and will continue throughout 2018.
Day Avenue, North Maple Street & North Farms Road
  • Caracas Construction will be doing final cleanup and restoration on Day Avenue, North Maple Street and North Farms Road.
Audubon Road  
  • Borges Construction will be working on final cleanup and restoration.
Clement Street Bridge

·       Hinckley Street
  • Ludlow Construction will be installing Drainage system components on Hinckley Street between Winslow Avenue and Nonotuck Street.  In addition their subcontractor, H.B. Fleming of South, Portland Maine, will be beginning the installation of a Sheet Pile and Lagging retaining wall below Riverside Drive
  • Traffic on Riverside Drive and Hinckley Street will be restricted and detours may be in place.  Public Safety officer(s) shall be on duty.
  • The work on this road includes the replacement of water, sewer and drainage utilities, a new drainage outfall off Riverside Drive, new sidewalk, roadway reconstruction and repaving, and a raised crosswalk across Nonotuck Street.
Pleasant and Holyoke Streets 
  • Final paving and reopening of the roadway is anticipated to be completed on Monday April 30th. Holyoke Street will remain CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC from Pleasant Street to Hawley Street until paving is complete.  Access for local businesses will be maintained.
  • Construction on the new building at 256 Pleasant Street is underway and will continue throughout 2018.
Day Avenue, North Maple Street & North Farms Road
  • Caracas Construction will be paving the sidewalk and doing final cleanup on Day Avenue.
  • On North Maple Street and North Farms Road, they will be replacing a section of drainage pipe near the intersection with Mountain Street and a installing a permanent trench patch over the new water line..
Audubon Road  
  • Borges Construction will be working on final cleanup and restoration.
