Anticipate Spring Flooding

The DPW has installed a new, automated height gauge on the Connecticut River. People who live or work in low-lying areas of Northampton can now monitor the current river height in real-time and see National Weather Service flood crest predictions by visiting our website:

http://www.northamptonma.gov/dpw/flood/

When the Connecticut River rises to 112 ft it begins to flood the Oxbow and Meadows. Once flooded, areas may remain under water for many days and then be impassable for weeks afterward.

This gauge was made possible through a grant by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and with the help of the USGS and National Weather Service.
