Construction work for the week of May 20, 2019, Weather Permitting

Construction planned for the week of May 20, 2019 Weather Permitting

  • Last week, Public Works repaired potholes on Bridge Road, Damon Road, Pine Street, Jackson Street, Island Road, Glendale Road, Dunphy Drive, Michelman Avenue, Norwood Avenue, King Street, and Bridge Street.  
  • To report a pothole, please submit a request for Pothole Repair. The largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles. As hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
  • Overlay work was done on Island Road, Ventures Field Road, and South Main Street.   

Burts Pit Road Paving Project

  • Palmer Paving is continuing work on the paving project for Burts Pit Road from Clement Street to Forest Glen Road. 
  • Drainage improvements are complete between Clement Street and Florence Road. 
  • Subdrain will be installed along the roadway shoulders, which involves roadway trenching, to be completed Monday, May 20. 
  • Pavement reclamation is anticipated to begin on May 22, with paving starting as early as May 29 and continuing into the week of June 3. 
  • The Clement Street Bridge will remain open throughout construction. Through traffic may be limited to one lane during certain phases of the project; expect delays.  

Damon Road, Bridge Street, Exit 19

  • MassDOT has contracted with Baltazar Contractors, Inc. to construct a roundabout and associated improvements to the Exit 19 interchange at the base of the Coolidge Bridge. The work is scheduled to be completed by June, 2021.
  • Preliminary work includes construction signage installation, survey and work on the northbound I-91 off ramp.
  • Questions about the project should be directed to MassDOT District 2.

Chesterfield Road at Kennedy Road - Upper Roberts Meadow Reservoir Dam

  • SumCo Eco-Contracting, LLC has removed the dam and completed the in-water work. Initial restoration of the staging area is complete and final restoration of the staging area and access roads is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 28th and be complete by the end of June. 
  • The project has removed the Upper Roberts Reservoir Dam and restored the Roberts Meadow Brook stream channel to its natural course.


Chesterfield Road, Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds), and Cross Street Paving Project

  • The City has decided to award a contract to Palmer Paving for paving and roadway improvements on Chesterfield Road (Westhampton Town Line to Kennedy Road), Spring Street (Dimock Street to Col. Lavalley Lane; Meadow Street to Pine Street), Main Street - Leeds (Spring Street to 535 feet northerly at the Mill River bridge), and Cross Street (Florence Road to Bliss Street). The scope of this project includes pavement reclamation, cold in-place recycling, line painting, and drainage improvements.  Work is anticipated to begin this summer.

Bridge Road and Glendale Road Paving Project

  • The City has contracted with Warner Bros for paving on Bridge Road from 100 feet west of Juniper Street to Hatfield Street and Glendale Road from 230 feet south of Westhampton Road to the Easthampton Town line. The overall schedule is May 13 to August 21. Emergency vehicle access and one-way traffic will be maintained. There will be traffic delays. Please seek alternate routes if possible.
  • The Contractor will be doing structure work on Glendale Road this week

Flood Control System Maintenance Project

  • The City has contracted with Northern Tree Service to perform vegetation removal and maintenance work on portions of the flood control system.
  • Work on the bridge on South Street near Earle Street that crosses the Mill River diversion channel includes flood control structures is complete. The area was seeded. 
  • Work will be conducted this week on the earthen levees adjacent to Pleasant Street and the Hockanum Road Pumping Station.

North Maple Street Drain Manhole 

  • Geeleher Enterprises will be mobilizing and beginning construction of a new drain manhole on North Maple Street near Bridge Road.
  • Construction work should begin on Monday, May 20, 2019.
  • The work should be mostly completed within 2 days, and final patching will occur later.
