Construction for the week of March 3, 2019

Highway Division Update

  • Last week, Public Works repaired potholes on Glendale Road, Industrial Drive, Cross Street, Florence Road, Burts Pit Road, Bridge Road and Spring Street. To report a pothole, please submit a request for Pothole Repair. The largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to motor vehicles. 
  • As hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
  • Snow preparation and removal work was done around the last storm.

  Burts Pit Road Sliplining Project

  • The City has contracted with Aqua Line Utility to "slipline" two culverts that convey streams under the road, which involves inserting new pipes into the existing culverts to repair them.
  • There are two locations, a twin culvert near #947 Burts Pit Road and a culvert near #1021 Burts Pit Road.
  • The project will begin on February 25. The duration of the project is expected to be one month, with each location taking approximately 2 weeks.
  • The contractor will require lane closures during construction, and there will be traffic police to allow one-way traffic at all times.

South Street Bridge at Mill River Diversion Channel

  • The City has contracted with Northern Tree Service to perform vegetation removal and maintenance work on portions of the flood control system.
  • The bridge on South Street near Earle Street that crosses the Mill River diversion channel includes flood control structures. Trees adjacent to the flood control structures have been removed with stump removal expected in the spring.

Bridge Road at Cooke Avenue

  • The City has contracted with Dagle Electric Corporation to replace the traffic signal and controls at the intersection of Bridge Road, Cooke Avenue and Jackson Street.
  • Work will continue through the winter as weather allows. Completion of the new signal and controls is anticipated in the spring of 2019. 

Chesterfield Road at Kennedy Road - Upper Roberts Meadow Reservoir Dam

  • SumCo Eco-Contracting, LLC has removed the dam and completed the in-water work. Initial restoration of the staging area is complete and final restoration of the staging area and access roads will be completed in the spring of 2019. 
  • The project has removed the Upper Roberts Reservoir Dam and restored the Roberts Meadow Brook stream channel to its natural course. 

Downtown Paving - Pleasant, Hampton, Wright and Fulton

  • The project commenced in August and includes Pleasant Street, Hampton Avenue, Wright Avenue, Cooke Avenue and Fulton Avenue. The contractor for this project is Warner Bros., LLC of Sunderland, MA.
  • Work is complete for the winter season. Remaining punch-list work will be completed in the spring of 2019.

Chesterfield Rd CLOSED between Sylvester Rd/Kennedy Rd and Montague Rd

The Department of Public Works has closed Chesterfield Rd between Sylvester Rd/Kennedy Rd and Montague Rd due to downed utility poles.  National Grid has been notified; however, due to other downed poles in the region related to high winds, their response time is unknown.  All motorists are asked to seek alternate routes to avoid the closure.  The road will only be reopened once it is safe to do so.  Please contact National Grid for updates.

Construction for the week of February 25 - Weather Permitting

Highway Division Update
  • Last week, Public Works repaired potholes on Dunphy Drive, Glendale Road,  Westhampton Road, Old Wilson Road, Rocky Hill Road, Grove Street, Chapel Street, Maple Street, Nonotuck Street, Church Street, King Street, Brookwood Drive, Ellington Road, Florence Road, Platinum Circle, Burts Pit Road, and Glendale Road.

  • Snow removal work was done from the area of Spring Grove Avenue and Hastings Street as well as the area of Evergreen Road.

Construction Update for the Week of February 18, weather permitting

  • Last week, Public Works repaired potholes on Lovefield Street, the corner of Cedar and South Streets, Burt's Pit Road, Hatfield Street, Meadow Street, Elm Street, South Main Street, Bridge Road, Woods Road, Maple Ridge Road, the corner of Florence and Burt's Pit Roads, Northern Avenue, King Street, Industrial Park, Glendale Road, Riverside Drive, Clement Street, Florence Street, Bliss Street and Scanlon Avenue.
  • To report a pothole, please submit a request for Pothole Repair. The largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles. As hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
  • Crews removed snow from downtown Northampton, various parking lots and surrounding streets in addition to intersections throughout the City. 
  • Due to the snow and rain, crews continue to address drainage issues as necessary.

  • To report a pothole, please submit a request for Pothole Repair. The largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles. As hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
  • Crews removed snow from downtown Northampton, various parking lots and surrounding streets and filled sand barrels throughout the City. 
  • Work was completed on Bottums Road to address drainage issues.

  • To report a pothole, please submit a request for Pothole Repair. The largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to motor vehicles. As hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
  • Crews responded to the storm the night of January 29 in addition to removing snow from downtown Northampton, various parking lots and surrounding streets. Snow removal was also performed on bridges throughout the city in addition to catchbasins and runoffs.

  • The City has contracted with Northern Tree Service to perform vegetation removal and maintenance work on portions of the flood control system. The bridge on South Street near Earle Street that crosses the Mill River diversion channel includes flood control structures.
