Construction for the week of September 2, 2019 Weather Permitting


Highway Division Update
  • Last week, the Highway Division repaired potholes on North Maple Street, Sterling Avenue, Hayward Road, East Center Street, Forbes Avenue, Chestnut Street, Brookwood Drive, Chestnut Avenue, Grove Avenue, Florence Street, and Hickory Drive.
  • To report a pothole, please submit a request for Pothole Repair. The largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles. As hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
  • Last week, the Highway Division repaired curb on Acrebrook Drive, Forbes Avenue and Clement Street.
  • Street sweeping in Ward 1 has been completed.
  • Street sweeping in Ward 6 has begun and will continue next week.
Burts Pit Road Paving Project
  • The paving project is substantially complete; no work is planned for the first week of September.
  • The Contractor will be working on punch list items (guardrail, signs & curb repair) during following weeks.
Chesterfield Road, Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds) and Cross Street Paving Project
  • On Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds), and Cross Street, the Contractor will work on driveway aprons and curb installation.
  • On Chesterfield Road, no work is planned for the first week of September.
Bridge Road, Brisson Drive, Denise Court and Glendale Road Paving Project
  • On Bridge Road, the Contractor will continue installing loam adjacent to curbs.
  • On Glendale Road, the Contractor will work on driveway aprons and curb installation.
  • On Brisson Drive, the Contractor plans to pave the roadway Tues, Sept 3rd, starting at 7:00 AM, weather permitting. Parking will be prohibited on Brisson Drive between 6:00 AM and 12:00 noon.
  • On Denise Court, the Contractor plans to excavate and grade a section of the roadway near Barrett Street. The Contractor will direct traffic around the work site.
Pavement Markings
  • The City has contracted with Hi-Way Safety Systems to repaint pavement markings across the City. This includes double yellow center lines, white edge lines, speed hump markings, arrows, railroad markings, and crosswalks.
Clement Street Bridge
  • The City has contracted with NEL Corp to remove and replace the Clement Street bridge deck protective surfacing and to repave 30 feet at the deck approaches.
  • The bridge is expected to reopen by the end of September 2019.
Bridge Street, Damon Road, Interstate 91 - Exit 19
  • MassDOT has contracted with Baltazar Contractors, Inc. to construct a roundabout and associated improvements to the Interstate 91 - Exit 19 interchange at the base of the Coolidge Bridge. The work is scheduled to be completed by June 2021.
  • Preliminary work includes construction signage installation, survey, work on the northbound I-91 off ramp and utility relocations.
  • Questions about the project should be directed to MassDOT District 2.

Construction for the week of August 26, 2019 - Weather Permitting


Highway Division Update
  • Last week, the Highway Division repaired potholes on Oak Street and Fern Street in Florence.  They also repaired curbs on Acrebrook Drive, Drewson Drive, Austin Circle, Massasoit Street, Fourth Street, and Winter Street.
  • To report a pothole, please submit a request for Pothole Repair. The largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles. As hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
  • Street sweeping in Ward 1 has been completed.
  • Street sweeping in Ward 6 will continue next week.

Burts Pit Road Paving Project
  • The paving project is substantially complete.
  • The Contractor will be working on guardrail installation and replacing select roadway signage.
Chesterfield Road, Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds), and Cross Street Paving Project
  • On Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds), and Cross Street, the Contractor will continue working on structure adjustments (manholes and catch basins) and will begin work on driveway aprons.
  • On Chesterfield Road, the Contractor will continue installing drainage improvements.
  • Delays may occur and residents are encouraged to seek alternative routes, when possible.
Bridge Road and Glendale Road Paving Project
  • On Bridge Road, the Contractor will continue work on driveway aprons and installing loam adjacent to curbs. 
  • On Glendale Road, the Contractor will be working on structure adjustments (manholes and catch basins) and may begin work on driveway aprons.

Glendale Road Paving Scheduled for August 23

  • On Friday, August 23, 2019 from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM, the first layer of pavement will be installed on Glendale Road from the Easthampton town line to 230 feet south of Westhampton Road (Route 66).
  • The roadway will be reduced to one lane for a distance of up to 2,000 feet (approximately 1/3 mile) during this operation.
  • Traffic controllers will alternate direction of travel by stopping one lane while allowing traffic to flow in the opposite lane. 
  • Travel away from the work site will be much faster than travel through the work site. 
  • Heavy delays are expected and commuters are encouraged to seek alternate routes. 
  • Delays are expected as the paving operation passes any entrance (driveway or street intersection) onto Glendale Road. 
  • Access will be provided for emergency vehicles. 
  • Construction signs will be in place, and police officers will be on duty to direct traffic. 
  • All residents and business owners on Glendale Road, Brisson Drive, and Park Hill Road Ext have received a Paving Notice (pdf)

Highway Division Update

    • Contractor will be working on crosswalk and line painting this week.
    Chesterfield Road, Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds), and Cross Street Paving Project
    • On Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds) and Cross Street the Contractor will be working on structure adjustments (manholes and catch basins) and driveway aprons.
    • On Chesterfield Road & Sylvester Road, the Contractor may start installing drainage improvements.
    Bridge Road and Glendale Road Paving Project
    • On Bridge Road, the Contractor will be installing pavement markings (i.e., line striping).
    • On Bridge Road, the Contractor will be installing new handicap ramps at JFK Middle School.
    • On Bridge Road, the Contractor will be installing loam adjacent to curbs on Friday, August 23rd. 
    • On Glendale Road, the Contractor will finish regrading of the roadway.
    • On Glendale Road, the Contractor will be installing the first layer of pavement on Friday, August 23rd.
    Roberts Meadow Watershed
    • Logging in the Reservoir Road area will begin.  Work will continue until late August.
    Pavement Markings
    • The City has contracted with Hi-Way Safety Systems to repaint pavement markings across the City. This includes double yellow center lines, white edge lines, speed hump markings, arrows, railroad markings, and crosswalks.
    Clement Street Bridge
    • Beginning Monday, July 22nd, the Clement Street Bridge will be CLOSED for deck resurfacing.
    • Bridge reopening anticipated in late September 2019.
    Damon Road, Bridge Street, Exit 19
    • Preliminary work includes construction signage installation, survey, work on the northbound I-91 off ramp and utility relocations.

    Construction work for the week of August 12, Weather permitting


    Highway Division Update
    • Last week, the Highway Division worked on Winter Street, repairing pavement, curbs and sidewalk.
    • To report a pothole, please submit a request for Pothole Repair. The largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles. As hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
    • Street sweeping in Ward 1 has been completed.
    • Street sweeping in Ward 6 will begin next week.

    Burts Pit Road Paving Project
    • Final pavement and top course on driveway aprons has been completed. 
    • Pavement markings (i.e., line striping) will be completed within the next 2 weeks after allowing time for the pavement to cure.
    Chesterfield Road, Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds), and Cross Street Paving Project
    • On Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds) and Cross Street the first course of pavement is complete.  The Contractor will be working on structure adjustments (manholes and catch basins).
    • On Chesterfield Road & Sylvester Road, the Contractor may begin laying out drainage improvements.
    Bridge Road and Glendale Road Paving Project
    • On Bridge Road, the Contractor will be paving driveway aprons on Wednesday, August 14th.
    • On Bridge Road, the Contractor will be installing pavement markings (i.e., line striping) on Thursday, August 15th and Friday, August 16th.
    • On Glendale Road, the Contractor will work on grading the roadway in preparation for laying the first pavement course.
    Roberts Meadow Watershed
    • Logging in the Reservoir Road area will begin.  Work will continue until late August.

    Construction work for the week of August 5, Weather permitting

    Highway Division Update
    • Last week, Public Works repaired potholes on North Main Street, Elm Street, Old Springfield Road, and Lovefield Street.
    • To report a pothole, please submit a request for Pothole Repair. The largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles. As hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
    • Street sweeping is in progress in Ward 1.

    Burts Pit Road Paving Project
    • Final pavement course has been completed. 
    • Top course on driveway aprons is scheduled for the week of August 5th.
    • Pavement markings (i.e., line striping) will be completed in 1-2 weeks to allow time for the pavement to cure. 
    Chesterfield Road, Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds), and Cross Street Paving Project
    • On Monday, August 5th, road reclamation will continue on Spring and Cross Streets. 
    • On Tuesday, August 6th starting at 7 AM, paving will begin on Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds), and Cross Street.  On Spring Street, the northbound lane will be paved from Pine Street to Meadow Street and Colonel LaValley Lane to Dimock Street.  On Main Street (Leeds), the northbound lane will be paved from Dimock Street to Cook's Dam Bridge.
    • On Wednesday, August 7th starting at 7 AM, paving will continue on Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds), and Cross Street.  On Spring Street, the southbound lane will be paved from Pine Street to Meadow Street and Colonel LaValley Lane to Dimock Street.  On Main Street (Leeds), the southbound lane will be paved from Dimock Street to Cook's Dam Bridge.
    • Cross Street paving is to begin in the afternoon of Tuesday, August 5th or Wednesday, August 6th, as time allows.
    • Detours around the work area will be in place as necessary.  Expect heavy delays and please seek alternate routes, when possible.  
    Bridge Road and Glendale Road Paving Project
    • On Bridge Road, the Contractor will be patching the pavement and placing asphalt curbing from Monday, August 5th to Wednesday, August 7th. 
    • On Thursday, August 8th, and Friday, August 9th, the Contractor will pave Bridge Road. Click here for more information.
    • On Glendale Road, the Contractor will work on grading the roadway and installing drainage improvements.
    Roberts Meadow Watershed
    • The City contracted with Goodnow Trucking of Winchester, NH for logging two white pine stands in Roberts Meadow Watershed. This project began in 2018 but was paused due to unfavorable ground conditions. Work will continue through early August.
    Pavement Markings
