Construction work for the week of July 1, Weather Permitting


Highway Division Update
  • Last week, Public Works repaired potholes on Lovefield Street, North Maple Street, Kimball Street, Howes Street, Fair Street Extension, Elm Street, Locust Street, Parsons Street, Stone Ridge Drive, King Street, Clement Street, Ormond Drive and the Hampton Avenue parking lot.
  • To report a pothole, please submit a request for Pothole Repair. The largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles. As hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
  • Roadway islands downtown were maintained.
Burts Pit Road Paving Project
  • The City has contracted with Palmer Paving for paving and roadway improvements on Burts Pit Road (Clement Street to Forest Glen Road). Through traffic may be limited to one lane during certain phases of the project; expect delays. The Clement Street Bridge will remain open throughout construction.
  • The first course of pavement is complete. 
  • Asphalt curb and driveway work will be conducted during the week of July 1.
  • Final pavement course is scheduled for the week of July 8. 
  • Traffic may be limited to one lane or closed to through traffic, allowing local traffic and emergency vehicles only for certain segments.   
Chesterfield Road, Spring Street, Main Street (Leeds), and Cross Street Paving Project
  • The City has contracted with Palmer Paving for paving and roadway improvements on Chesterfield Road (Westhampton town line to Kennedy Road), Spring Street (Dimock Street to Col. Lavalley Lane and Meadow Street to Pine Street), Main Street - Leeds (Spring Street to 535 feet northerly at the Mill River bridge), and Cross Street (Florence Road to Bliss Street). The scope of this project includes pavement reclamation, cold in-place recycling, line painting, and drainage improvements.
  • On Spring Street, the contractor will continue to remove curbing this week, and the subcontractor will resume drainage installation on July 8.
Bridge Road and Glendale Road Paving Project
  • The City has contracted with Warner Bros for paving on Bridge Road (100 feet west of Juniper Street to Hatfield Street) and Glendale Road (230 feet south of Westhampton Road to the Easthampton town line). The overall schedule is May 13 to August 21. Emergency vehicle access and one-way traffic will be maintained. There will be traffic delays. Please seek alternate routes if possible.
  • On Bridge Road, the contractor will continue removing existing asphalt curb and excavating driveway aprons from July 1 to July 3. No work is scheduled for July 4 & 5.
  • There is no work scheduled for Glendale Road this week.
Flood Control System Maintenance Project
  • The City has contracted with Northern Tree Service to perform vegetation removal and maintenance work on portions of the flood control system.
  • Minor work will be conducted this week on the earthen levees adjacent to Pleasant Street and the Hockanum Road Pumping Station.
Roberts Meadow Watershed
  • The City has contracted with Northeast Tree Care & Landscaping to remove hazard trees adjacent to the following roadways: Chesterfield Road, Kennedy Road, Reservoir Road and Sylvester Road. This work is scheduled for July 1 to July 8. Traffic may be limited to one lane during the work - please expect delays.
  • Between July 1 to July 3, crews will conduct work along Chesterfield Rd west of Sylvester Rd, Sylvester Rd and Kennedy Rd.
Damon Road, Bridge Street, Exit 19
  • MassDOT has contracted with Baltazar Contractors, Inc. to construct a roundabout and associated improvements to the Exit 19 interchange at the base of the Coolidge Bridge. The work is scheduled to be completed by June 2021.
  • Preliminary work includes construction signage installation, survey, work on the northbound I-91 off ramp and utility relocations.
  • Questions about the project should be directed to MassDOT District 2.

Woodlawn Avenue Closed to Thru Traffic

Woodlawn Avenue will be closed to through traffic Wednesday, June 26 and Thursday, June 27 for tree work.  Local and emergency access will be maintained.  Please seek alternate routes if possible.

Construction Planned for the Week of June 24, 2019 Weather Permitting

Highway Division Update
  • Last week, Public Works repaired potholes on Crosby Street, Sherman Avenue, Swan Street, Bradford Street, Drury Lane, High Meadow Road, Lyman Street, and the transfer station.
  • To report a pothole, please submit a request for Pothole Repair. The largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles. As hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.
  • Road Surfacing was done on Hockunum Road and Old Springfield Road.

Burts Pit Road Paving Project
  • Palmer Paving is continuing work on the paving project for Burts Pit Road from Clement Street to Forest Glen Road. 
  • The first course of pavement is complete. 
  • Adjustments to structures (manholes & catch basins) and work on driveway aprons are scheduled for the week June 24, which will be followed by the asphalt curb placement.
  • Final pavement course is scheduled for the week of July 8. 
  • Traffic may be limited to one lane or closed to through traffic, allowing local traffic and emergency vehicles only for certain segments.   
  • The Clement Street Bridge will remain open throughout construction. Through traffic may be limited to one lane during certain phases of the project; expect delays.

  • Questions about the project should be directed to MassDOT District 2.

Construction work for the week of June 17 Weather Permitting

Highway Division Update

  • Last week, Public Works repaired potholes on Spring Street, Pioneer Knolls, Gilrain Terrace, Brookside Circle, Beattie Drive, Acrebrook Drive, Holly Court, Burts Pit Road Extension, Keyes Street, School Street, Clark Avenue, State Street, Market Street, Crosby Street, City Hall and Memorial Hall Driveways.
  • To report a pothole, please submit a request for Pothole Repair. The largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles. As hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.

Burts Pit Road Paving Project

  • Palmer Paving is continuing work on the paving project for Burts Pit Road from Clement Street to Forest Glen Road. 
  • The first course of pavement is complete. 
  • Adjustments to structures (manholes & catch basins) and work on driveway aprons are scheduled for the week of June 24, which will be followed by asphalt curb placement.
  • Final pavement course is scheduled for the week of July 1. 
  • The Clement Street Bridge will remain open throughout construction. Through traffic may be limited to one lane during certain phases of the project with occasional road section closures. Access for local traffic and emergency vehicles will be maintained. Expect delays.

Lavalley Lane; Meadow Street to Pine Street), Main Street - Leeds (Spring Street to 535 feet northerly at the Mill River bridge), and Cross Street (Florence Road to Bliss Street). The scope of work includes pavement reclamation, cold in-place recycling, line painting, and drainage improvements.  
  • Preliminary work is ongoing and includes construction sign, erosion control, and tree protection installation.
  • It is anticipated that subdrain installation will begin on Spring Street the week of June 24th.

Bridge Road and Glendale Road Paving Project

  • The City has contracted with Warner Bros for paving on Bridge Road from 100 feet west of Juniper Street to Hatfield Street and Glendale Road from 230 feet south of Westhampton Road to the Easthampton Town line. The overall schedule is May 13 to August 21. Emergency vehicle access and one-way traffic will be maintained. There will be traffic delays. Please seek alternate routes if possible.
  • On Bridge Road, the subcontractor will continue to reset structures (i.e. catch basins, manholes, and valve boxes) and be removing bituminous curb. Drainage installation is scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
  • No work will occur on Glendale Road this week.

  • The City has contracted with Northern Tree Service to perform vegetation removal and maintenance work on portions of the flood control system.
  • Minor work will be conducted this week on the earthen levees adjacent to Pleasant Street and the Hockanum Road Pumping Station.

  • Sewer repairs were done on Bardwell Street and North Maple Street.
Burts Pit Road Paving Project
  • Palmer Paving is continuing work on the paving project for Burts Pit Road from Clement Street to Forest Glen Road. 
  • The first course of pavement is complete. 
  • Adjustments to structures (manholes & catch basins) and work on driveway aprons are scheduled for the week of June 10, which will be followed by the final pavement course.

Chesterfield Road at Kennedy Road - Upper Roberts Meadow Reservoir Dam
  • SumCo Eco-Contracting, LLC has removed the dam and completed the in-water work. Initial restoration of the staging area is complete and final restoration of the staging area and access roads is in progress and anticipated to be complete by the end of the month. 
  • The project has removed the Upper Roberts Reservoir Dam and restored the Roberts Meadow Brook stream channel to its natural course.

​North Elm Street & Hatfield Street Road Closure


Hatfield Street (between Bridge Road and North Elm Street) and North Elm Street (between Bridge Road and Hatfield Street) will be closed Wednesday, June 5, 2019 until 4pm due to work associated with the Bridge Road paving project. ​There is a detour posted at the intersection of North Elm Street and Hatfield Street​. Access to homes and businesses on Hatfield Street and North Elm Street will be allowed. Emergency services, PVTA, and Northampton School Transportation Services have been notified.
